Riding Guidelines for Chapter 1360
1. Show up with a full tank of Gas.
2. Time to LEAVE is the POSTED time of ride.
3. Show up at least 15 min before posted time.
4. Input only taken from riders showing up early.
5. Form a Train UNLESS the Road Captains have split the
group up.
6. Ride staggered (not inline) leaving 2 seconds travel time
between you and rider directly ahead of you.
Never ride beside the rider ahead of you; they need that space for
emergency situations.
7. Keep together-Catch up on straightaway to maintain
the train.
8. Intersections.
a) Pull up to stop sign/light side by side. Rider on LEFT
leads thru intersection.
b) 4-way stop: Proceed thru as a train.
c) Cross traffic does not stop: Rider on LEFT
responsible for pulling out when they see it is safe.
d) Light controlled: Proceed thru as train, if light changes
be aware of surroundings.
Lead Group will continue on slowly if separation
occurs, and if a turn is made they will hold back so following group notices.
NEVER waive a vehicle into the line of bikes
Cross traffic or oncoming may be waved thru if Train
is abnormally long but should be avoided unless they are pushing the issue.
(Most are busy gawking at the bikes and will patiently wait)
Being Ready at each stop is key. Don’t assume a
stop sign or intersection is a time to visit with your neighbor or take a break.
Pay attention. Don’t assume everyone else is watching out for YOU.
9. Point out road kill and other hazards for those behind
you (the tail riders cannot see the Road Captain pointing).
10. Form a single file line to avoid bicyclists, pedestrians,
horses, etc. (sometimes single file line needs to be in the Right Wheel track)
11. Use bike’s Turn signals but please remember to CANCEL them.
(arm/hand signals also can be used) more on this later
12. Parting ways from the Group
Try to ride at tail from last stop to your turn off. Slow down …
Arm wave (side to side) Signal, Point and turn off…Arm wave again.
13. If you are following someone who is waving side to side
again…
you are going home with them not the group.
14. Communicate: Tell us at ANY stop your
concerns so we can address them promptly.
15. Please take ANY criticism or direction as simply “Getting us
all on the same page” and not as a personal attack in any way.
16. Feel free to Critique the Road Captains after a Ride.
17. Your input is critical to making the Rides Safe, Fun and
Enjoyable to us all.
18. If you do not feel comfortable confronting a Road Captain, be
sure to voice your opinions to our Safety Director.
